Yukon
Canada's Far North is summertime's Land of the Midnight Sun. The region's Yukon Territory sparkles with highlights ranging from historical nuggets to natural jewels.
A hundred years ago the great Klondike Gold Rush set off a stampede northwards. Today people still head to the Yukon drawn by the magnificent landscapes, abundant wildlife, and vivid legacy of an extraordinary past.
Whitehorse, the Yukon's capital, largest city and gateway, where log cabins and modern office buildings share the streets, blends pioneering spirit and urban sophistication. The city is serviced by a two-hour flight from Vancouver, and is a natural departure point for more intimate retreats to Dawson City and Kluane National Park.
Dawson City, home of the gold rush and a National Historic Site, takes groups back to the Klondike days and lets them visit the original saloons, gambling halls, watch can-can dancers and pan for gold.
Kluane is a magnet for outdoor adventurers. It contains Canada's highest mountains, massive glaciers, wilderness, lakes and rivers. An outdoor enthusiast's paradise, groups can raft, canoe, go fly-fishing, mountain bike, rock climb or take off on horseback. And the fun doesn't stop once the snow arrives. Winter in the Yukon is full of festivals under the Northern Lights, as well as hundreds of miles of dog sledding and snowmobiling tracks.
Incorporating First Nations' customs into a programme is also a must; groups can learn to cook local specialities like moose stew and whale blubber, or build fish traps and pole houses.
