The territory's largest city, and gateway to Canada's North, is Yellowknife, approximately a two-hour flight from Edmonton or Calgary. This modern city, located on a peninsula in Great Slave Lake, lies on the doorstep of the Great Outdoors. The city is full of contrasts, a place where groups can feast on caribou steaks and caviar, stay in log cabins or top-class hotels, ride dog sleds or high-speed jets. Yellowknife has approximately 620 hotels rooms.
