Manitoba
It ranges from the frozen north of Hudson Bay to the prairies of the south. It has wilderness, boreal forests, green plains, over 100,000 lakes and bountiful wildlife. The province also has the ideal settings to experience white water rafting, canoeing, fly-in fishing lodges and wildlife viewing.
For a sight never to forget, groups can visit, either by train or plane, Hudson Bay seaport Churchill, dubbed the 'Polar Bear Capital of the World', from October to November, when the bears wait for the ice to form so they can move out onto it for winter. July and August are ideal for watching hundreds of beluga whales in the Churchill River, and from November to March, the northern lights dance through the night skies.
Winnipeg is Manitoba's capital city and largest meeting centre. The city is steeped in history of hardy voyageurs and European culture and sits where herds of buffalo once roamed. The Forks, where the Red and Assiniboine rivers meet and flow on their way to Hudson Bay, is the focal point of the city. For 6,000 years a traditional meeting place for First Nation's peoples, the Forks are today a gathering place for more than 100 festivals throughout the year. The city also boasts 17 theatres, 36 museums, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and over 900 restaurants.
